Tentunya ini cukup membingungkan bagi orang awam dalam hal petak-petak tanah hardisk. Ditambah lagi Isu jika menggunakan Quick (cepat) akan merusak hardisk, tidak bersih, dan umur hardisk berkurang. Tentu saja dalam logika ini masuk akal, diibaratkan bagaikan kita membersihkan lantai dengan kain pel secara cepat (quick) dan secara normal (bukan lambat). Tentusaja Anda akan melihat perbedaan yang mencolok pada lantai Anda, yaitu untuk pembersihan secara cepat atau quick akan menimbulkan banyak sisa-sisa kotoran yang tidak bisa dibersihkan secara cepat, berbeda dengan cara normal Anda tentu lebih teliti untuk membersihkan dan sudah bisa ditebak hasil yang dihasikan maka lantai Anda akan bersih sesuai dengan yang Anda inginkan. Itulah mengapa quick format menjadi alasan agar tidak menggunakannya. Tapi ini bukan Dunia nyata dimana anda akan menemukan ketebalan suatu kotoran dan memerlukan kerja extra untuk membersihkan, malainkan ini Dunia Komputer dan tentu saja akan jauh berbeda dengan dunia nyata. Jika Anda beranggapan normal format lebih baik dari pada quick format maka Anda salah besar! mengapa? karena pada dasarnya format suatu hardisk itu sama saja seperti menyapu kotoran yang sama rata tebalnya. Dalam dunia komputer hdd diibaratkan lahan tanaman, dimana tanaman tersebut tinggi dan panjangnya sama karena dalam media penyimpanan hardisk, hardisk akan dipetak-petak berdasarkan track dan sector dengan cara Low Level Format. Track adalah satu jalur-jalur dalam hardisk yang bebentuk satu lingkaran penuh, sedangkan sector adalah membagi lingkaran-lingkaran dari track menjadi seperti potongan kue yang lebih kecil untuk menyimpan data. Terus apa hubungannya dengan quick format dan low format? tentu saja ada, karena pada dasarnya semua format sama namun ada yang membedakan. Dalam quick format atau format cepat akan menggunakan metode track, maksudnya adalah hardisk akan dihapus keseluruhan berdasarkan track yang telah ditandai dalam low level format dengan mengabaikan sector untuk discan terlebih dahulu dan cara ini hanya memakan waktu beberapa detik untuk ukuran hardisk 500 GB. Sedangkan normal format akan menghapus isi hardisk dengan membaca keduanya dan mencari sector yang rusak dan menandai agar head hardisk tidak menuliskan datanya disector tersebut, dan tentunya proses ini akan memakan waktu yang lama andaikan hardisk Anda seukuran 500 GB bisa memakan waktu yang lama. Jika Anda berkata itu lebih baik dan membuat komputer lebih cepat, maka Anda salah besar karena pada kenyataanya normal format akan membuat hardisk Anda lebih berat dan tentusaja OS (Operating system) akan terkena imbasnya. Namun sangat berbeda dengan quick format, Anda akan mendapati komputer berjalan lebih cepat. Untuk masalah tahan lama atau tidaknya hardis tergantu dari umur dan penggunaan hardisk tersebut, makin seringa anda menggukan hardisk maka umur hardisk juga akan berkurang dan ini tidak ada hubungannya denga quick dan normal format.
